A blade shave is $30, either the face or the head, one price per area. Both together is two services back to back. It is the classic hot towel straight razor ritual with prep, hot lather, two passes with the razor, a cold towel to close pores, and a balm or SPF at the end. Thirty to forty five minutes. It is the closest shave you can get without doing it yourself, and honestly better than what most guys can do at home.

The Process

What actually happens in the chair

    The consultation

    A minute on how close you want it, whether you have sensitive skin, and whether you want the face, the head, or both. If you are new to a straight razor, we walk you through it.

  • 02

    The first hot towel

    A hot moist cloth on the face or scalp for about two minutes. It softens the hair, opens the pores, and lifts the hair off the skin so the razor works cleaner instead of dragging.

  • 03

    Pre shave oil and hot lather

    A few drops of oil to protect the skin, then hot lather worked in with a brush in small circles. The brush lifts every hair up so the razor can find it on the first pass.

    First razor pass

    Always with the grain. Short strokes, the skin held taut, the blade at a shallow angle. This pass removes most of the hair with the least irritation.

  • 05

    Second hot towel, re lather, second pass

    The towel resets the skin. Fresh lather goes on. The second pass runs across the grain or gently against it, depending on how close you want it. This is the pass that gets you the shave you cannot get at home.

    Cold towel and balm

    A cold towel to close the pores and calm the skin. Aftershave balm or moisturizer on the face. For a head shave, sunscreen instead, because a freshly shaved scalp burns fast in real sun.

How to ask for a blade shave without guessing

Three things, and the barber can run the whole service without checking back in.
Say it first

1The area

Face, head, or both. Each area is $30. If you want both, say so up front so the barber blocks the right amount of chair time and knows to buzz the head down first.

Then

2The closeness

Standard, or as close as possible. Standard is one pass with the grain and one across, comfortable for most skin. As close as possible adds a second pass against the grain, which is baby smooth for twelve to twenty four hours but harder on sensitive skin.

Finally

3The finish

For the face, say if you prefer an alcohol splash for that traditional sting or a balm for calm skin. For the head, always ask for SPF, and if you have a sunscreen you like, bring it. Ours works fine but a lot of guys have preferences.

Who It Is For

Who a blade shave is for

Anyone who wants a shave they cannot get at home. That is most guys, honestly. A cartridge razor at the bathroom sink is not a straight razor with hot towel prep, and the difference is not subtle.

Guys with sensitive skin often do better here than they do at home because the prep and the sharp single blade cause less irritation than a dull multi blade cartridge. Guys who shave their head appreciate not having to reach the back of their own skull with a razor. Guys who have never had the ritual should try it once as an experience, it is the best shave you will ever get and it comes with about thirty minutes of quiet time in the chair.

How often to come in for a blade shave

Common Questions

FAQ

Does it cut you?

A trained barber makes hundreds of clean passes a week. Nicks are rare and small. If it happens, a styptic pencil stops the bleeding in seconds and you leave without a mark.

How close is it compared to a cartridge razor at home?

Meaningfully closer. A single sharp blade removes hair right at the skin line on the second pass. A three or four blade cartridge cannot do that without shredding your face.

How long does it last?

Standard closeness lasts a day or two depending on your growth rate. As close as possible lasts about a day and a half of true smoothness before stubble is visible.

Should I come with stubble or shave first?

Come with one day of growth on the face. Three days of growth is too much for a razor, the barber has to buzz through it first, which cuts into the ritual. For the head, buzz it down to stubble before you come in.

Does it hurt?

No. The prep does most of the work. If the razor pulls or stings, the lather is dry or the blade is angled wrong, tell the barber and they will re lather. Should not happen with a trained barber.

Will I get razor burn?

Rare with proper prep. If your skin is particularly reactive, stick with standard closeness. Against the grain is where irritation lives.

Can I get both the face and the head in one appointment?

Yes. Book both, it is $60 total, and give the shop about seventy five minutes of chair time. Face first, then the head, so the face is settled before you leave.

Do you use a fresh blade for every client?

Every single time. A new blade, straight out of the pack, in front of you. No exceptions in a licensed shop.

What if I have never had a straight razor shave?

Tell the barber. They will walk you through each step, go a little slower, and check in on how the skin is feeling. Nothing scary about it. Most first timers become regulars.

Is the head shave good for guys with a receding hairline?

Very good. A clean shave beats a thin scattered top by a mile, and once you are on the schedule the upkeep is easy. First one is worth trying to see how you feel about the look before you commit.

What if I have moles or skin tags?

Point them out at the start of the consultation. The barber shaves around them, no razor over raised skin.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. If you have a specific SPF or aftershave you like, bring it, otherwise we have both.

Do you take walk ins?

Walk ins are welcome, but for a shave we recommend calling ahead. The service needs a full block of chair time and it is easier to reserve than to hope for a gap.
