A kids haircut is $35 for children under twelve and takes about twenty to thirty minutes. It is an adult quality cut on a small human, done at a pace and tone that works for a kid. That means shorter chair time, gentler tools near the ears, and a barber who has seen every stage from a nervous first haircut to the middle schooler who has an opinion about the fade. If you can, book mid morning after breakfast. That is the calmest a kid ever is.

The Process

What actually happens in the chair

    The greet and booster seat

    We meet the kid at their level, show them the chair, and add a booster seat if we need one. Nothing surprising, nothing loud, no rush.

    Quick consult with the parent

    Thirty seconds. Guard number if you know it, or the direction you want. Any hair the child does not like being touched, any tool they are scared of. We would rather know now than find out during.

  • 03

    Clipper work with a guard the child can hear coming

    We start the clipper away from the head so they hear the sound before they feel it. Larger guard first, smaller in passes if the length calls for it. No sudden buzz next to the ear.

    Scissors on top

    Section by section. Kids' hair is soft and sits differently than adult hair, so we check length against the head shape often, not just against itself.

    Quick neckline and around the ears

    A trimmer, held so the child can see it. Straight razor edge work is skipped on very young kids. Optional on older ones if the parent asks.

  • 06

    Style and a mirror

    A tiny dab of product only if the parent wants it. Then we hand the kid the mirror. This is their haircut, they should get to look at it.

How to ask for a kids haircut without guessing

1A photo or a guard number

A picture is easiest for kids, especially if there is a favorite character or an older sibling's cut they are trying to match. If you know the guard number from the last cut, tell us. If not, we will show you the guards on your kid's hair before we run them.

Say "school appropriate, off the ears, out of the eyes" and you have covered ninety percent of school year kids' cuts. If you want a specific style, name it, fade, taper, buzz, or a longer natural cut.

3Anything that will help the barber

If the kid is nervous, tell us. If the kid hates water, tell us. If the kid is coming right off a nap, brace yourself. If a previous barber went too short and the child was upset, tell us that too. There is no such thing as an over share here.

Who a kids haircut is for

Kids under twelve. First haircuts, back to school cuts, sports team looks, and everything in between. If your child is twelve or older and asking for an adult style with a real fade, we usually recommend the regular men's haircut. The price is the same for a smaller head, the technique is the difference.

Kids come in every temperament. The one who has been coming since they were two and sits like a statue. The one who is scared of the cape. The one who wants to hold a phone the whole time, which is fine. The barber has seen every version and has a plan for each one. Distraction with a tablet or a small toy is welcome. Snacks are fine as long as they are not sticky. Water bottles yes, juice boxes near the chair no.

How often to come back for a fresh kids haircut

If your kid hates haircuts, keep the cadence tighter, not looser. A shorter visit every four weeks is easier on a nervous kid than a longer visit every eight.

FAQ

My kid will not sit still. Can they still get cut?

Yes. Tell the barber ahead of time. Experienced kids' barbers use short bursts of clipper work with breaks, and hand them a mirror or a distraction between sections. We would rather take thirty minutes and get a good cut than fifteen minutes and a fight.

What is the best time of day to bring my kid in?

Mid morning after breakfast, before eleven. That is when kids are the calmest. After school and around nap time are the two hardest windows.

Can a parent sit in the chair with a young child?

For a first haircut, absolutely. Hold the child on your lap if that is what they need. We have done it plenty of times.

Do you have booster seats?

Yes. We have booster seats and we can also do a laptop board across the arms of the barber chair, which is what a lot of first haircuts use.

What is the youngest kid you cut?

There is no strict minimum. We have cut babies at nine months and we have had five year olds who need a lot of patience. Call ahead if it is a first cut and we will pair you with the barber who is best with the little ones that day.

Should I bring a photo?

Yes. It is the fastest way to get everyone on the same page, especially with kids who cannot describe the cut they want.

My kid has curly hair. Will you cut it dry or wet?

Both, depending on the cut. Curly hair is usually cut dry so we can see the actual curl pattern and not surprise anyone when it dries. We will tell you what we are doing before we start.

Do you take walk ins for kids?

Walk ins are welcome, but for kids we suggest calling ahead. Waits are harder on kids than on adults, and if we know you are coming we can time it right.

Do you use a straight razor on kids?

Rarely, and only if the parent asks and the kid is older. Neckline and around the ears is done with a trimmer, which is gentler and quieter.

Can I book my kid and myself back to back?

Yes, and it is a good pattern. Kid gets cut first while they still have patience, then you go while a parent hangs out with them.

What if my kid cries the whole time?

It happens. We do not take it personally. We work faster and gentler, and if we truly cannot get it done we stop and try again another day. No charge for a cut we could not complete.

Do you do first haircuts?

Yes, and we make it a real moment. Bring your camera. We can save a lock of hair for the baby book if you want.

Is $35 the price for every kid under twelve?

Yes. Same price for a two year old and an eleven year old. Twelve and up is the regular men's haircut price.
