A men's haircut and beard is $45 and takes about forty five to fifty five minutes. You get the full adult haircut, sides and top, plus a full beard trim shaped with clippers and scissors. There is no straight razor across the face, which means no razor burn risk and no sudden shaved stripe on the cheek. If you keep any amount of beard, from stubble to about an inch, this is the service for you.
The ProcessWhat actually happens in the chair
- 01
The consultation
A minute or two on the haircut, another minute on the beard. The beard part is where most guys undersell what they want. Tell us the guard number you want the beard trimmed to, or point at the length you like on a photo. Vague requests get conservative results.
- 02
Wash or spray down
The haircut half starts wet. The beard half stays dry, which we will get to.
- 03
The haircut
Clippers on the sides, scissors on top, blended through the transition, line up around the perimeter. Same process as a standard men's haircut.
- 04
Beard combed out dry
Wet beard reads ten to fifteen percent longer than it really is, which is how guys walk out shorter than they wanted. We comb the beard out dry so what we see is what you get.
- 05
Guard work in sections
Guard set one length longer than the target, sideburns to jaw to chin to mustache, section by section. Scissor over comb on any long hairs that survive the guard.
- 06
Cheek and neck lines
Outlined with a trimmer, not a straight razor. Cheek line follows a natural line from the corner of the mouth to the middle of the ear. Neckline set two fingers above the Adam's apple, a gentle U curve into the ears. Mustache tidied. Done.
How to ask for a men's haircut and beard without guessing
1The beard length
Give a guard number if you know it. A number three is a heavy stubble length, a number five is a short beard, a number eight is a fuller beard. If you do not know your number, point at a photo, or say "take a little off, keep the shape." Do not say "clean it up" and stop there. Every barber has a different definition of clean and they all trend short.
2The neckline
Say natural or sharp. Natural is barely defined, a soft edge you can grow through. Sharp is a crisp line set two fingers above the Adam's apple, more defined and reads groomed. Sharp holds its look for about five to seven days before it softens.
3The cheek line
Natural or defined. Natural cheek line follows where your beard already grows, with a few strays cleaned up. Defined cheek line sets a straight or slightly curved line from the corner of the mouth to the middle of the ear, giving the beard a top edge. Ask for natural if you are not sure. Defined is a stronger look and takes about a week to grow soft again.
Who a men's haircut and beard is for
Guys with beards, from a few days of stubble up to about an inch of length. If your beard is longer than that, still this cut, we just spend a little more time on scissor over comb work.
Anyone with sensitive skin belongs in this chair rather than in the deluxe. Trimmer only outlines mean no razor burn, no ingrown hairs from a close pass, and no red line above the collar for the rest of the day. Guys who cannot stand that just shaved cheek stripe belong here too. A trimmer edge softens on its own in a few days. A razor edge is loud for a week.
You have a look in mind
You know the look, or you have seen it on someone. Bring a picture, ideally of a person whose hair matches yours in texture. We translate the picture to your head.
You have no idea what suits you
Tell us what you do for work, whether you actually style your hair or comb it once and go, and how often you get cut. That is enough for a good barber to steer you toward something you will enjoy wearing.
How often to come back for a fresh cut and beard
- Short beard, clean shapeEvery three weeks
- Stubble lengthEvery two to three weeks
- Longer full beardEvery four weeks
- Cut and beard together on a scheduleEvery three weeks pairs well with almost any fade
Stretching it a week? A $25 beard and shape up in between resets the perimeter without the cost of the full service.
Common QuestionsFAQ
What is the difference between this and the deluxe?
The deluxe adds a hot towel and a straight razor detail on the cheek and neck lines. Same haircut, same beard shape, but a closer edge and a slower pace. The men's haircut and beard uses a trimmer for the outlines, which is why there is no razor burn risk.
Will the neckline look as sharp without a razor?
Yes for about five to seven days, then it softens. A trimmer sets a clean line but the hair regrows evenly rather than in the sudden line you get from a razor.
How long does the service take?
Forty five to fifty five minutes. A little longer if the beard is over an inch and needs real scissor over comb work.
Should I trim my beard before I come in?
No. Come in with a few days of growth if you can. If we can see the full shape, we can trim to the shape you actually want. If you tidied it up yesterday, we are guessing.
Should I wash my beard before I come in?
Wash it that morning if you can, and skip the beard oil or balm. Product on the beard makes it slide through the guard unevenly and we end up chasing the length.
Can I ask for the beard to be shorter than usual?
Yes, but say so at the consultation. If we set the guard for your normal length and then you want it shorter, we can go down, but we cannot go back up. Always give us the shortest length you would be happy with, we can leave it longer than that.
Do you take walk ins?
Walk ins are welcome. Shortest waits are before eleven in the morning Tuesday through Thursday. Saturdays and late afternoons run longer. Call ahead and we will save you a chair.
What if I have a patchy beard?
A good shape hides patchiness better than length does. Keeping the perimeter tight and the length even makes the patchy spots read as texture instead of gaps.
Can I get eyebrows done at the same time?
Yes, add on eyebrows for $7 at booking or in the chair.
Do you use a straight razor on anything?
Not on this service. If you want the closest possible cheek and neck edge, book the deluxe men's haircut and beard, which adds the hot towel and the razor pass.
Can I bring a photo?
Yes, please. Bring one for the hair and one for the beard. They can be different guys. Match the hair texture in the photo to your own, and match the beard density.
Do you charge extra for a long beard?
No. The price is the price. A very long beard takes more time on scissor over comb work but we do not upcharge for it.
I do not know what to ask for. Help. Tell us how you have been wearing the beard, how often you trim it at home, and whether the last shape you had was a little too short, a little too long, or right where you wanted it. That is enough.
